Traverse City @Risk Boxing Program for Youth |
|
Traverse City at Risk Boxing was founded in 2002. Our mission is two-fold; one to provide an after school program for at risk youth; and two, to provide the developing athletes with opportunities to compete in Golden Gloves, Police Athletic League (PAL) and USA Boxing Tournaments. These events start at a local level and then advance to the State competition, and Nationals where the athletes gain points that can qualify them for the ultimate dream of competing for the United States in the Olympics.
Travel expenses are a monthly part of our budget (getting to and from the local and state events). At the National level, athletes are provided most of their travel, food and lodging stipends from each above-mentioned organization, if they advance through local and state events.
NEWS FLASH
Due to the economy we have more young people who need our help than we currently have funds to support. This program is a proven winner.
Please make a contribution to help the youth who need us the most in northern Michigan now. It may even be tax deductible!

The funding for Traverse City At Risk Boxing comes through grants, fees, gifts, boxing shows, and most importantly, your personal contributioins.
All costs fall into three categories: maintaining a training facility, equipment, and travel cost for competitions. The majority of funding for the training facility comes through a grant from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa Chippewa Indians. The existing program could not sustain itself without their benevolence. Not one dollar at TCARB has gone to professional fundraiser's or employee salaries. Our volunteer USA coaches work with area youth creating a community atmosphere where kids have an opportunity to succeed.
The bad news is, travel costs and equipment replacement is subject to money raised by doing local boxing shows or donations. Although the membership has increased the opportunities for competition are prohibitive because of travel costs. Last year our program developed a National Champion and many capable athletes. Additional revenues raised will be used for travel and equipment.
In past years the gym has produced many State Champions, two National Champions, and one of our athletes was an alternate on the 2004 Olympic Team. All your donations are tax deductible and you can be assured that your gift will be used to its maximum potential.
Please send your donation to T.C. At Risk Boxing, 1220 Woodmere Traverse City, MI 49686.

About the coaches
Bill Bustance started boxing 40 years ago. He competed successfully in amateur boxing, professional boxing, and MMA. Bill retired from the ring and now focuses his love of the sport on coaching those who want to learn the skills and discipline of boxing, be it competitive or recreational.
Robbin Bustance also experienced competitive boxing in the 90’s. She served on the Michigan Association of USA Boxing as co-chair for women's boxing. She was team manager of the Michigan women's team at Nationals in 2002 & 2003.
The Bustance's have trained State Golden Glove Champions, National Champions, Professional Boxers, and MMA fighters. Even though they love the competitive spirit, Bill and Robbin enjoy training individuals to achieve health goals as much as they like winning championships. Both are level II Certified coaches thru USA Boxing. USA Boxing certification requires seminars, clinics and continued education in the areas of nutrition, sports medicine, injuries, training methods and boxing techniques. They network with some of the best coaches and athletes in the sport of boxing and continually gather information to hone their teaching skills.
