Nutrition…complex and yet so simple it is the most important building block to support an athlete. Because it is such an important part of the training regimen we approach nutrition as a lifestyle. Strength training… is a blanket term for all exercises that develop the strength and size of skeletal muscles. Boxing develops not only major muscle groups it maximizes the fast twitch response and the complex system of stabilizer muscles. Aerobic… any repetitive activity, that when done long enough, increases the need for oxygen. It must be preformed a minimum of 15 minutes and one should be able to talk while exercising. This prolonged activity burns fat. Different boxing moves that reinforce control over the fight or flight response are the heart of the sweet science of boxing. Visual focus, foot balance, and the elimination of adrenalin to the upper body are the hallmarks of boxing aerobics. Anaerobic... is a technical word, which literally means without air. Muscles that are trained under anaerobic conditions develop biologically differently giving them greater performance in short duration-high intensity activities. During anaerobic exercise, the muscles being exercised have insufficient oxygen to meet the demands of the activity, and thus must also use alternate, non-oxygen-dependent processes to produce energy. The process of burning sugar is what makes one diizzy during aneribic exercise. Anerobic exercise is what prepairs a boxer for; flurrying at the end of a round, power punching and going for the knock-out. This is why a boxer requires 1 minute of rest for every three minutes of activity. High Intensity Interval training… an exercise strategy using maximum-intensity efforts intended to improve performance with short training sessions. HIIT involves a warmup period, several short, separated by moderate recovery intervals, and a cooldown period. Plyometrics… are any exercise where the muscle is contracted eccentrically then immediately, concentrically and is one of the best ways to improve power. Power is similar to strength except you are adding the time factor therefore the relation of strength and speed is what we are talking about when we talk about power. In boxing, we use Plyometrics to develop not just the contraction of the muscle, but how fast will it contract. Cross training… refers to training in different ways to improve overall performance. Mixing it up via cross training is the way to become stronger in your sport of choice. We have cross-trained high school, college & professional athletes who report back to us that they entered training camp in top shape. |
