Bill's Boxing Blog

Sometimes great stuff happens and by the time the story comes out to be told, the original tone loses its tang. Not here, because boxing is exciting stuff and its a environment that’s fertile ground for good stories. That’s what this blog is all about. If I had a dollar for every time some dude (maybe a girl) said something that’s really stupid; and we all know that stupidity is the rawest form of entertainment, well I guess I got that much money but this will still be a shit load of stories. It doesn't take lots of brains to try boxing. Even though humans are not really genetically designed for endless smashing, it does take intelligence to survive in boxing. This is why many people make a hobby out of it and very few make it a career. I've made it my career.

When I think of the characters that have colored our gym, it would be rainbow of depths and tones that range from all walks of life. Boxing can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. The civilized violence offers a marking point for their lives. One of my favorite lines with the kids is when I ask them, "What is the neatest feeling I've ever had in my life besides the birth of my daughters?" I then put them in front of the mirror and lift their hand in the air like a referee does to the victor of a bout that was witnessed by a few thousand fans. This can be attractive to us that like attention. Unlike team sports the boxer gets all the glory. Sometimes when one of the kids gets a little down with their training I'll pull them in front of the mirror and raise their hands and remind them why were training hard. After a while, the fighter becomes aware that the guy their fighting might be training harder so we better pick it up and know that were training smart. Like I said before, it takes intelligence to survive.

Bad language seems to be a part of boxing. There have been some gentlemen involved with the sport that resist using such language but I'm not one of them. I wouldn't want to wreck a good story with bad language but then again we wouldn't want to be incomplete either. If I believe that anonymity is important than I won't use names. Cage fighting, girls boxing, thugs humbled, bad guys winning, nutrition, training techniques, and a myriad of other topics and interviews will appear on this blog.
